THE NEXT SEVEN YEARS

Daniel 9:24Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy.

The number 7 is an important number to God – it symbolizes perfection. Seven days makes one week – God created the world in 6 days and rested on the 7th(Gen 2:1-3). God's pattern is what we still follow. The 7thyear is the Shemitah when the land was rested. The year following 7 times of 7 years is the year of Jubilee. It was the time of release and restoration (Joe 2:25).

In the Book of Daniel (Dan 9:24-27) we have the prophecy of 70 weeks that will change the world. The 70 weeks commence from the time of the decree to rebuild the wall and city of Jerusalem (Dan 9:25). Nehemiah the King's cup bearer fulfilled this prophecy (Neh 2:1-9). Foretelling the date of the coming of the Messiah, Jesus Christ to accomplish the following (Dan 9:24):

  • finish transgression
  • make an end of sins for everyone who believes
  • reconciliation for iniquity (family bloodline sin)
  • bringing everlasting righteousness – receive Jesus, receive life (Jn 3:16)
  • to seal the vision and prophecy
  • to anoint the Most Holy

In AD32 Jesus was crucified at the time of the evening sacrifice as the Passover Lamb (1Cor 5:7).  He died, but not for Himself (Dan 9:26). This was the great exchange that released great power for believers to live for Him (2Cor 5:14-15, 21).  Following Jesus and preaching the Gospel is our most important work (Matt 28:18-20).  And we have the wonderful assurance that He will be with us always.

Joseph interpreted a dream about sevens too and it propelled him from prisoner to prime minister (Gen 41:14-41).  His brothers sold him into slavery, but later Joseph recognized it as the will of God to save souls (Gen 50:20).  Therefore he held no bitterness or offense against his brothers for what they had done.  We must learn to give thanks in everything (1Thess 5:18).
